Ok, not to be a jerk or anything, but in all honesty, if you have to ask questions like this, you're not ready to use Linux yet. Yes, it is more secure, and yes it CAN be faster (not always) but if you're not very accustomed to messing around with computers than Linux is just not for you. It is not nearly as user friendly as Windows and you will in most cases need to know how to use command line pretty well, as well as what certain commands do. Just to point this out further, you can not use EXE files in standard Linux. It would require extra software (an application called WINE) and even with that you'll have to struggle to get most Windows applications to run even decently. Your best bet is to just stick with Windows for now because trying to switch to Linux will just leave you frustrated....trust me, I know, I tried to do it last year before I had actually learned anything about the OS....It sucked! Get a book or something and do some reading up on the basics of Linux, than try it out....you'll probably be much happier. Now that i've used it in college, it makes much more sense and I can now use it effectively.

To answer your question though, you probably wouldn't want to install it into a recovery drive...you may need that at some point. What you have to do is either use a program called partition magic (which I dont recommend) to make a new partition on your hard drive, or completely reformat and than make three new partitions, one for Windows, one for Linux and one for the Linux SWAP file (I usually give Windows about 60% of the drive, Linux about 35% and then the other like 5% or about 1.5GB goes to SWAP). Then completely reinstall both Windows and Linux. If you want to kind of play around with it first before you actually install it, to get a feel for it, you could try a Live CD. You just pop it in your CD-ROM and it boots up off of that. It wont be as fast, but atleast it will give you a little experiance. It's just that, at this point, it really probably wont be worth your time to figure out how to do a dual boot just to be dissapointed when you realize how much different than Windows it is.
