I recently resized put linux on a different partition, and now I can't restore the Windows boot sector?

I have a smaller 1.5 GB partition I tried putting Xandros Linux on. Sadly it wouldn't boot. Sooooo, I used FreeDOS's FreeFDISK, which I use all the time, to make the linux partitions in the extended partition into a FAT partition. After finishing that, I used the SYS command that came with Windows and fired away at the C: drive. I rebooted the machine without the floppy in, but I still get the Xandros boot menu! How can I throw this out and have Windows always boot like it used to?

If you have a windows 98 boot disk, try to boot with this disk and tip in the command prompt:

c: (to enter in root or c:\) and then

" fdisk/mbr "

Your boot will be fixed, but some other problems may appear, like a hidden partition (by Linux installation) or a partition not active in Windows. To solve this, run the Fdisk again and choose (I think, hehehe) the second option, Make An Active Partition or something that and see if there is an "a" appearing in the Windows partition. If not, set it like a active partition.

Remember, this will make with the Linux installation "blows up" (lost it), hehehe...
Reply:Worked perfectly! Thanks!

I've decided to install my Xandros copy in MS Virtual PC 2007, works perfectly. Report It

Reply:Windoze has a FixMBR command - try that - I think you run it off the install CD.
