I have a PC with C: and D: drive. Old OS is Window ME. I plan to clean format them and install Linux OS. How could I do it? In particular, how can I format the C: and D: drive.
How could I format my old PC and install Linux OS?
Whilst running Windows ME, go to My Computer and format drive D:
To install Linux to drive C: you need to create a Live CD, the most popular debian based Linux currently is Ubuntu 7.04
Go to this site and Download Ubuntu :
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
You then need to create a bootable disc, called a LIVE CD of Ubuntu.
To achieve this download a free trial of MagicISO :
http://www.magiciso.com/
Once you have created the LIVE CD boot from it and select 'Start or Install' and Ubuntu will boot to your desktop. In the top left corner of your desktop there is the option to install.
Select Install answer regional questions in set up etc.
It will then take you to the partitioner, select the second option in the list, which is guided use entire disk and this will format Drive C : whilst installation is taking place.
Once installed you need to remove the LIVE CD and you are good to go.
Hope this is useful.
Reply:Well installing Linux would format both, but you need to have partions so use a program like PartionMagic.
Reply:the Linux OS cd will format these drive for you.
Reply:Go to the Fedora website, and download it. You can just install it from there. When installing you can decide what to do with the C and D drives.
